At present the bottom row of roofing tiles sit on top of your existing fascias, thus meaning there is a great deal of weight resting on the fascia boards. We slide up this bottom row of tiles to alleviate the weight and allow us to remove the existing fascia timber.
What the local authorities specify, is removal of the 6 x 1 existing fascias. Replace it with a new 6 x 1 wooden fascia, this has been kiln dried and pressure treated to BS5589, so that it will not sweat with the PVCu over it. The purpose of the backing board is to take the weight of the tiles. The new solid 9mm PVCu board is now fitted over the new kiln dried timber.
